Strategic Planning.

Strategic plans are a tool to ensure that resources
are available as, when and where needed to prevent, contain and respond to mosquito-borne diseases. These outline measurable goals, guide decision making and inform day-to-day operational planning.

The PacMOSSI consortium supports Pacific Island Countries to develop or amend their strategic and operational plans in line with their specific disease situation, national processes and priorities.

Framework
for the Pacific.

Strategic plans were listed as a priority activity in the WHO Global Vector Control Response 2017-2030. Practical guidance on information to be included in national mosquito surveillance and control plans is
outlined in the Framework for national surveillance and control plans for Aedes vectors in the Pacific. This Framework explains how to establish and
implement these plans considering local epidemiology and resource availability.

Plan development is guided by information that includes:

Basic steps in strategic planning.

PacMOSSI achievements.

The PacMOSSI consortium has supported countries at different stages in the planning process by reviewing existing plans or drafting new plans in line with the Framework.

A regional strategic planning workshop was held in 2022 to provide an overview of the Framework and to identify next steps for strengthening or finalising plans. 14 countries were represented
at the workshop and PacMOSSI support to develop or refine their plans was requested by 9 countries.

New mosquito control plans have been finalised by 4 countries with ongoing PacMOSSI support to 5 other
countries undertaking the planning process.

future activities.

It is anticipated that strategic plans will need to be adapted as disease and mosquito vector situations change over time such as due to climate change or response activities, and as new mosquito surveillance or control tools become available. Countries will continue to lead this ongoing process. Support from PacMOSSI may be available for selected countries where this is identified as a priority.
