Enhanced capacity to prevent, contain and respond to vector-borne diseases in the Pacific requires sound knowledge across a range of topics related to mosquito surveillance and control. This includes the need for initial and refresher training for managers, health officers, field staff and researchers.
The PacMOSSI consortium offers free online self-paced learning modules that can be tailored to the job roles and needs of each participant.

The PacMOSSI online course was launched in 2022 and modules were rolled out in a staged approach. 8 modules were available by 2023.
A 2025 evaluation of the online course found it to be a valuable and impactful learning tool for vector surveillance and control professionals across the Pacific.
413 vector staff from 20 Pacific Island Countries enrolled in the PacMOSSI online course. By December 2025, 72 of the Pacific enrolees had completed 5 or more modules. The online course has been used as a pre-requisite for attendance at PacMOSSI workshops and meetings to ensure a baseline of knowledge and good understanding of core topics.
Another 453 individuals from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Oceania had enrolled to complete modules.
“I would like to acknowledge your team for this valuable opportunity to build capacity. I have learned immensely from the training, and I wish continued success for this program and for our Pacific Island colleagues who will benefit from it.”
